Congratulations Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Ford for being recipients of the Baldwin EMC Star Light Award. The Operation Round Up Star Light Award is an educational grant program designed to provide support to teachers for the direct purpose of improving learning through a specific lesson and/or project in the classroom using innovative or creative techniques.
Mrs. Williams is planning to introduce the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to some of the physical and biological aspects of the Bay in a way that facilitates a deeper understanding of this unique ecosystem. With the funds from this grant, equipment and instrumentation will be obtained which will allow the students to directly sample and investigate for themselves several relevant physical and biological parameters that are key to the health of the ecosystem. In addition to learning different lab procedures for using new equipment which will be a great benefit to their science skills, she also hopes to bring excitement to the students as they come to the bay so that they will forever remember their time sampling its waters and realizing what a privilege it is to live on the coast of such an important body of water.
Mrs. Ford will embark on a Continental Cruise...A Reading Journey Around the World! Students will visit "Ports of Call" by reading, analyzing, comparing and contrasting a variety of Folktales from around the World, as well as read nonfiction information about the story's origin and related cultural information. Folktales, nonfiction books and Reader's Theater scripts will be purchased with her grant from the Operation Round Up Star Light Award.
Grants are funded through Baldwin EMC’s Operation Round Up program, which uses change collected from the rounding up of participating members’ electric bills for charitable causes. Thank you Baldwin EMC!
