Dear Parents,
As we approach Easter and have been quarantined for 3+ weeks, I feel certain we have all had a vast range of emotions as our day to day lives have been turned upside down and we are inundated with anxiety producing news on the spread of the CoronaVirus. I hope you are settling into a new normal and seeing the positive aspects of being at home. I want to take this opportunity to share some resources that may help you and your family endure and hopefully, enjoy these days apart.
A couple of ideas came to mind as I though about being at home for the next few weeks. Patience. A very challenging concept for many of us. Our culture values productivity and accomplishing our to-do list. During times of increased stress, we may not be our best, most productive selves. At some point you may find yourself more than a little frustrated with the current circumstances. Working from home while trying to make sure the needs of your family are met and your children are academically moving forward is quite a juggling act even for the most skilled parent. Being with the family, we love so very much, day in and day out, can challenge the patience of any saint! The stress associated with losing the family’s income has to be enough to drive anyone to the breaking point.
Being flexible in our thinking, focusing on opportunities and possibilities instead of losses and deficiencies, may be challenging but will be crucial to our mental health. Self-care is going to be key to get through this with our sanity. Self care is not selfish. It is vital to be able to take care of the people we love. This link will take you to several articles on staying mentally and emotionally healthy while living in quarantine. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/hope-resilience/202003/how-stay-emotionally-healthy-during-the-coronavirus-outbreak?collection=1141038
Staying connected, extending support, charity and kindness to our family, our neighbors and ourselves will be essential in the weeks ahead. We are all in this together. The faculty at CTKCS want to help in any way we can to make educating your children less stressful while we are quarantined. Do not hesitate to ask for help in the days ahead.
If you would like to have a Peer Helper plan to zoom or face time with your son or daughter to assist with assignments, contact me through email (quint@ctkcsdaphne.org) and I will connect you with students who are willing to help. I am happy to call you if needed.
If you find yourself or your child in need of outside counseling, please let me know. I can easily provide you with a list of local resources and referrals. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
May the peace of Christ which surpasses our understanding surround your family.
