"Science Rules!" says Junior High Science teacher Mrs. Williams, who received a grant from Ingall's Shipbuilding for $4,972 that will be used to purchase 20 Seaperch ROV kits.
The project will focus on students learning STEM concepts such as: tool safety and usage, circuits and electronics, principles of buoyancy, pressure, water displacement, and fluid mechanics, and understand the basics of using ballasts and floats. 8th grade teams of 3 will put together their Seaperch ROV then test them in an underwater obstacle course!
Some goals of the project are: to motivate students to become more interested in the Science of Engineering, to encourage collaboration and teamwork with fellow team members, to make connections to the real world how the concepts learned about and practiced with, and to promote handson activities in engineering and technology that the students would otherwise not engage in.
Thank you to Ingalls Shipbuilding for the funding of this project!
